Kathy Heim has been singing choral music since the age of 8. She holds her BA in Music Education from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She was Huntsville’s first Kindermusik teacher in the early 1990s, eventually moving the program from her home studio to Fantasy Playhouse as the program grew. She has sung with the UAH Concert Choir, Village Singers, and Chamber Choir, the Nashville Symphony Choir, the Huntsville Community Chorus, Huntsville Schola Cantorum, Vox Angelica, Denison University Concert Choir, and Lancaster Community Chorus, and is currently a soprano with the LancasterChorale (Central Ohio’s Premier Professional Chamber Choir), NAVE Voices, the Huntsville Collegium Musicum and the Choir of St. Thomas Episcopal church. She teaches private piano and voice lessons from her home studio (Miss Kathy’s Music Studio). She served as Choirmaster at St. Johns’ Episcopal Church (Lancaster Ohio) from 2009 – 2015, and Choirmaster at St. Thomas Episcopal Church (Huntsville) From 2002 – 2007. Other past positions include Cherub Choir and Treble Choir director at St. Thomas, Children’s Choir Director at First Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, Assistant Director of the Huntsville Children’s Community Chorus, and soprano section leader in the Lancaster Community Chorus. Kathy enjoys composing and arranging music for her piano and voice students and choirs, and is currently working on a set of anthems based on the proper collects (prayers) said during the church year’s “ordinary time” – the period between the Day of Pentecost and the first Sunday of Advent.
Outside of music, Kathy enjoys gardening, sewing, reading, gourmet cooking, theology, and spending time with friends and family. She is a mentor for the University of the South’s Education for Ministry Program. She recently completed a two-year course in homiletics and is a licensed lay preacher in the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio.
